Hello
I’m Jane, author of the fictional memoir “Becoming Meg”, documenting the early life of a Northumbrian working-class girl around the WWII period.
I’m currently working on my second novel. “Best Girl” is set in 1870 and recounts the adventures of Steam Tug engineer Ed Watson as he travels from the River Tyne to Constantinople, exploiting the opportunities available to westerners in this burgeoning industrialising empire.
My Story
I’ve been writing for many years, publishing successful non-fiction books on business communication, travel and social media. Leaving the business world behind me, I drew upon the writings and poems of my mother and family lore to create “Becoming Meg”.
I’ve moved backwards in time to the nineteenth century to write “Best Girl”. It’s inspired by the travels of my great, great, grandfather and by contemporary newspaper articles and reports from both Northeast England and Constantinople.
